Ying and Yang of Cenya ...

That is the title of the picture above. In case you don't know, Cenya (Kenya) is my dog. I liked the way she looked while resting, so I took a snapshot.

Last weekend was a horrible for my Vikings. Its playoff pursuit ended with da Bears beating the Packers. It did not matter as the Vikings lost their game. $h!t. Another promising season gone awry. I guess I rather not get into other personel issues they had. Nuff said!!!!

It was good to have my little sister back home for a week. I think we, the family, were more agreeable and not full of drama. My sister and I went out for lunch two times. We went to Barrio Cafe and Cyclo, which were highly recommended by local papers. They did not disappoint, and I think little sis was pleased. I did get a little tired of driving to and fro. It is a 50 mile-roundtrip to the parents'. It was good to see grandma in good spirit as well.

Random Shot
I got a little ticked off by Lilly's ad about depression. It looked like a public service announcement, but it is a thinly veiled attempt at getting people to buy PROZEC! Go talk to your doctor about depression my A$$!

Beer Update
Export Helles is in primary fermenting. I think siphoning to a secondary fermentation vessel should be done sometime this week. Maybe a diacetyl rest for a day? Cannot wait to sample a little after siphoning!

Movie Recommendation
"Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist" is an okay movie. I liked it just enough. "The Exorcist" is so much better and scarier.

Javelinas scared me ...

I wanted to take some pictures yesterday and walked over to a little hill. As I was ascending, I literally and physically (I don't know why people use this lingo) into two javelinas. I was very startled, and cursed myself for not having the camera ready. I watched as they scurried away. Their odor lingered though. It reminded me of skunks. Luckily I was able to take pictures with my zoom lens later. It is too bad the photos are not focused well enough for me to use them. Mm, bacon. I took one very usable picture. I guess that is the way photography works.

I made a five-gallon batch of export strength Helles Monday. This means more merry time when we finally do drink this fine German lager. It will be more than six percent alcohol by volume. It will be malty and smooth. Mm, Helles. It is fermenting right now. I hope time flies by for this lager.

My sister is visiting this week from San Fran. It is good to have her here. I am not sure what we will do as siblings this time. Maybe to Zoo Lights, Phoenix Art Museum, and good restaurant outings?

Movie recommendation:
"Saint Ralph" made me laugh and tearful. It is like Napolean Dynamite but more heart and marathon training and running.

For fun sci-fi movie, try "Serenity." People talk in entertaining way and actions are pretty good, although much of it darkness.

Pi$$ and moan ...

Let me count the ways things started going wrong with the new car. I think I can count three ways. The first way is running over a parking light. It cost me nine hundred to get the bumper fixed. Ahhhhh! I guess I will chalk this up to my inexperience with driving manual transmission. I am to blame for this but I would not have had this experience since I would not have to worry about pedaling clutch. Oh, well. At least, I am enjoying the challenge and fun driving manual transmission. If I can just up and down shift more smoothly, then life would be grand. Well, as far as the driving is concern.

The second way is not getting a spare key from the dealer. I asked for it about three weeks ago and it is now ready. I guess these new fancy keys with transponder are nice, but it takes forever to get it. Ah, the good ole days when you could just get a copy.

The third way is the rear tire that got damaged and cannot be repaired. A screw punctured a side of the tire rather than the repairable bottom tread. DAMN IT! The dealer took forever to locate and order it. How weird that Discount did it less than three days when dealer could not do it in three weeks?

Now, how can I stay mad at the convertible that brings me so much joy every time I drive it? I just need to get over it. Driving so much fun! Zoom, zoom.

Since I started to complain about things this week, I am going to write about an organization I interviewed with more than one month ago. At the time, I asked how long it would take them to make selections. The interviewers told me the decisions would be made within a week. Well, the first week has come and gone. I am still waiting to hear from them. I kind of regret not sending them a thank you letter, but they made it sound like the decision was going to be made so soon. Well, as the saying goes, hindsight is twenty/twenty. I finally called their human resources last week, but they asked me to contact the interviewers directly. What a crap! Their HR should train interviewers to contact interviewees within a reasonable time with any available information. I found out through my inside source that budgeting is preventing from hiring right away. I would have like to have known this, as I do not have to speculate. I mean I don’t want to piss off interviewers by calling if they do not want to be contacted. I started to look elsewhere for employment and will start substitute teaching in January.

Ah, complaining does make me feel better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beer update: Saison tastes pretty good. I guess it is rustic (whatever that means!), alcoholic, and just enough carbonation. I think it can use another couple of weeks for the right amount of carbonation. I hope you kids were nice this year.

Movie recommendation: I saw an old Kirk Douglas movie called, “Detective Story.” It is an adaptation from a play. It is a great little movie about people forgiving loved ones and second chances. I guess all Douglas family members have a chin fold. Check this one out.

Manual Transmission is a pain in the a$$ ...

I have to say manual transmission is a real pain sometimes. I have been driving manual for about a month now, and I feel pretty comfortable driving to places. I am still having enough problems that I would like to avoid driving during bumper to bumper traffic if at all possible. I find myself stalling when I have to slow down and start up again. This is getting much better as I drive more. I am also not doing something correctly when shifting from first to second gear. There is a shake instead of a smooth transition like from third to fourth gear. I am cognizant of it and trying to better it. I like to be a smooth shifter real soon.

I am starting to slack off from my regualr running schedule. I need to find a race so that I will really stick to it. Maybe not. Maybe it is a way for my body telling me to rest up. Anyway, I should step it up.

Good to see ole friends ...

Possibly the best thing about holidays are reuniting with your ole friends. Two of my greatest high school amigos, Garrick and Ian, are in town for the turkey day. Ian was excited for Garrick and I to meet his lady. We were excited to meet her. Staf is her name and she seems very nice and complementary to Ian. They make a great looking couple I think. Look at the photo from above and judge for yourself. They are going to have tall babies if they have some. It was great to meet up, have some cocktails, and catch up. Of course, we talked about our lives and high school people gossips. Funny how it does not seem awkward that we catch up every few years. I am grateful that we do not have a high maintenance type of friendship. Kierland shopping area, where we met, was nice. I have never been since I do not venture much further than Biltmore, which is very nearby.

I am doggie sitting Lulu this week. She is with me until this Sunday. She is a little undisciplined, a little possessive about food and toys, but very sweet. I think I will miss having a second dog. Well, maybe not that much.

Last weekend was great for my football teams. The Vikings are starting to get it together after beating the Packers on last Monday night. YES! Even Cardinals won last week. Impressive, most impressive! (Did you get my Darth Vader impression?) I am disappoint with UofA atheletics as the basketball team is off to a rocky start, and the football team lost to the scum devils. Oh, well.

Beer update: Saison is coming along. I hope carbonation will be just right. I really don't have too much control over this.

Movie recommendation: I am recommending a movie called "Me and You and Everyone We Know." It is a movie about eccentric people. I could not really relate well except they are all very frail. It is very strange and funny.

An offer you can't refuse ...

I am going to a Sunday service tomorrow. Last time I went was on Mother's day. I figured it would make my mother happy. I will be in a church to be with my god son, Aidan, because he is getting baptized tomorrow. I was a little nervous this morning, so I called another godfather, Josh. We talked and I agreed that I should be there on time, dressed neat, stand, and repeat words if necessary. I guess I can do that. I also phoned the god mother to see if she knew anything more. I am happy to say that I feel ready for tomorrow.

I am still a little nervous when I am driving. I occasionally stall still. It is wickedly frustrating at times, but manual tranny is just so much more fun to drive. I am taking the CAR in for the bumper repair next week.

I need to start printing more of my photos so I can hand in my portfolio within the next two weeks. I might use the photo from above.

Beer Update: I bottled super saison two days ago. It reminds me of Chimay. I am happy with it right now. I am hoping I will be happier once it is effervescent.

Movie Recommendation: I am recommending "Mad Hot Ballroom." I guess I like to watch people dance. It was great to see boys and girls interact like civilized people. There is hope for us all. It was great fun.

Bruised ego ...

I had the new car for less than two weeks and I already had an accident. Don't worry. No injuries to others or myself. Just a bruised ego. Last Friday night, I drove to a friend's house and no incident. I went in the house and we exchanged greetings. You know, "how the hell are yah?" Anyway, I wanted the friend to drive it around since he taught me how to drive principally. He was impressed and I think he wants one. I don't know really. I also asked his wife to drive it, but she was very hesitant. I decided to drive her around the parking lot. I was not wearing any shoes at the time, but did not care. I am not saying this was the reason for my misfortune, but who knows. Anyway, we drove around and I came to a dead end where I need to stop. I did not step on the brake for some reason and my mind blanked. I might have thought the clutch was the brake. I really don't know. I hit one of those low ground parking lamp. SH!T!!!! I really feel bad about the passenger. I think I traumatized and scarred her for life. Well, I hope not. I am not hurt except for my bruised ego.

I had the car checked out and everything is fine except for the bumper cover and fog light. I guess it is just money. I needed to use clear tapes to temporarily stop the flapping while driving. See the above picture closely to see what I mean.

Movie Recommendation: I watched all three of James Dean movies. I am recommending "Rebel without a cause." What is with the white people portraying Mexican immigrants in "Giant?" Couldn't they use real Hispanic actors and actresses?

Beer Update: I am bottling super saison this week just in time for Christmas. Have you been good this year? You might get some nice spirits this Christmas.

Nov 10, 2005

Here is to Andy Warhol ...

My digital photography class is nearing its end, and I need to start putting together a portfolio. I might include the above picture. I was inspired by Andy Warhol's work, and everyone said it reminds them of Andy Warhol. I am not sure my grandmother would want it to be included in my portfolio. I should talk to her.

My beloved Vikings managed to put together a win last weekend. They are now 3-5 and still staying in the division championship hunt. I guess the division is a very lousy one. Media is saying Vikings are sticking to 4-3 formation and making its defense simpler. It may be working since they got a win. Hope this continues. Let's not even talk about the Cardinals.

I just received a pay check for being a bouncer at a bar. I know I am this hunk of a beefcake, but I don't like standing around doing nothing. I don't know how people can be a greeter/bouncer. I guess you are wondering how I became a bouncer. A bartender friend called me asking if I would help out an establishment that needed dishwahsers and security. I knew I did not want to be a dishwasher. I also need to say no more often. After that, C'est la vie.

Movie Recommendation: I am recommending a movie called, "DEBS." It is a very silly movie about teenage female spies. It is also about two girls finding each other. What is it about girls finding each other I find appealing? I am not sure, but it was sure entertaining.

Beer update: I think I will be bottling Super saison sometime next week. Oak Chips sunk to the bottom, and I don't know what that means. I did use a weight so it should sink, but it did not at first.

My dog is a karate kid ...

Do you remember when Daniel san caught a fly with chopsticks? I know. I know. It is a great cinema moment. Well, today I witnessed my little dog, Cenya, catching a fly with her mouth. It was incredible. She stalked a fly to a window and jumped. The fly fell like a plane shot down. The best part is she did not eat the fly.

Movie Recommendation: I am recommending "My Summer of Love." It is about two young women, who finds each other for a summer. I did not anticipate the ending at all. It is very good twisted ending indeed.

Midlife crisis hits hard ...

I cannot believe it. I bought a red Miata! I think my sister said it best. It's a case of full blown midlife crisis. I don't know what else I can say about that. I do like driving it very much. I am still not a great driver, which worries me some. I am practicing at night times. Watch out everyone.

Oct 30, 2005

My football teams lose yet again ...

So Cardinals and Vikings are losers once again this week. They are both 2-5. I am not sure what is the problem. On the paper they are both division champs, but they are way under performing. I guess it is the Sports Illustrated jinks once again.

I went to Palo Verde Golf Course to hit some balls. Boy, I was off today. I hit them fat, short, and to the right. If I am sane, then I really should never pick up golf clubs again. Only upside was hitting the tractor gathering golf balls. That really felt good.

I am still learning to drive stick and Sinziana helped me today. She seemed a little nervous, but she felt better after I started to drive. I am happy to say I brought her back to her husband in one piece and safe. I think manual is more fun. I think I will be buying 2006 Miata any day now. It will be sweet.

Movie Recommendation: I liked "Stand By Me" from my recent rentals. It is great to see a fine actor like River Phoenix in a movie. It is too bad about his early demise. I really liked his works like "Mosquito Coast", "My Own Private Idaho", and others.

Beer Update: It is still bubbling so I am going to give another week before bottling.

Oct 25, 2005

Learning to drive manual transmission and other updates ...

I wanted a Miata since I was in high school. It is a convertible, which is rearwheel driven, mid-engine, and handles well. What is not to like? Maybe it's girly image! I guess you cannot win everything. I am learning to drive manual transmission as no one suggests getting an automatic at all for this car. I am still making mistakes, but it is more fun than automatic. I guess I will be practicing frequently.

I'd been busy last weekend. Friday was a vino party with Trace and his gang. Saturday was a salmon bake at Danielle's. Sunday was learning to drive and breakfast with Azagras. Sunday evening was with my usual suspects (Rampleys, Parnells, etc, etc). There is a picture of Cameron at the top. Cool!

This weekend was fast and furious. More good news. Red birds and purple people eaters (aka Cardinals and Vikings) both won. Yeah! Now they are at dismal 2-4.

I have noticed that there are people who leaves me spam as comments for my blog. I wish they would stop.

Beer Update: Super Saison is being aged with oak chips and it is at least another week away from bottling.

The State Fair corn dogs did not taste so great ...

I went to the State Fair with my little brother last Saturday. I wanted to go since I have not gone in years. I also wanted to take some pictures. I picked up the little and off we went.

We went through the McDowell entrance, where painted model horses were displayed. I really liked the Starry Night horse and the Mexican horse. We were there during the midday and it was not busy. We went on the ferris wheel where I took some photos of the whole area. It was a little scary at first. My little went on a couple of overpriced rides and played carny games. We saw some over grown rabbits, a goat contest, and other livestock. We also saw some photos and other hobbies displayed.

Here is the downer. I was craving corn dogs. You know how one remember fondly about carny food. It was so not what I remembered. I think there must have used the worst wiener. Yuk! Otherwise, it was a great little visit.

Beer update: I added three little scoops of oak chips to the Super Saison. I hope this adds some complexies people will wonder about.

Movie recommendation: A documentary called "Inside Deep Throat" is look at the time and people surrounding the porn flick with same name. It is fascinating.

Oct 6, 2005

I am going to make you an offer you cannot refuse ...

Do you remember Brando as the Godfather? Making you an offer you can't refuse. Well, I was asked to be a godfather. I was told that occasionally I would have to attend their church. I said yes without any hesitation, of course. I am happy to be a godfather to a great friends' son. I know I am not asked to be the kind of godfather I have seen in the movies, but I can still dream, right? Have a godson who would kiss your ring everytime. I might have to get a fat ring anyway. Watch some more Italian mob movies and develop fake accent. May be grease my hair.

Beer Update: Saison is still going strong. I might add some spices like orange peels, star anise, etc. I guess I sould taste some when the fermentation stops first.

Oct 4, 2005

I got an obscene phone call and other happenings ...

I got my first obscene phone call yesterday. It was a faint heavy breathing. I had no idea I had such a following. While I am not spooked or anything, but it seems so pointless.

I have a good friend who owns a property in Oak Creek. We all met up there to camp as there is not a building on it right now. It was nice to camp. Eating outdoor, camp fire, S'mores, and other usual activities were welcome change for all of us. I slept in my sleeping bag under the clear sky. Others slept in tents, trailer, and SUV. I really enjoyed sleeping outside. I should do this more often. I took many pictures, but I did not like most of them. Oh, well.

Beer update: My super saison is fermenting very well now. I am glad it did not get stuck like I thought it might.

Sep 29, 2005

Foozer concert was awesome.

I went to Foo Fighters/Weezer concert last night with two great friends from Tucson. You know who you are. I met up with them at Jackson at third. I parked in front of the County jail for the first time. I guess I was too cheap to park closer. I also figured who would steal a car in front of a camera rich environment.

I so enjoyed Weezer. They are little easier on my ear drums, and there was not any mosh put type activities. There were some songs I did not know since I do not have their last album. It was good to hear Sweater Song, Hash Pipe, Island in the Sun, I am Jonas, and others. I wanted more.

Foo Fighters was also good, but I felt a little old for the energy of the crowd. Foo Fighters was a border line heavy metal and I guess I don't dig it as much. I knew about half of the songs, but I have not listened in sometime. Mosh pit activity was not quite my thing.

It was good to go to a good concert like this one. I felt so much more alive just enjoying music.

Suddenly inspired to go hit golf balls ...

I have a couple of golf clubs stationed out on patio in the backyard. I just like to swing and whack the heck out of weeds. I was swinging the clubs and adjusted my technique in the hopes of improving. I must say adjustments felt great. The adjustments are bringing left arm straight back to my chin, cocking the club 90 degrees at the top, and swing all the way through fast. I have been itching to go out to a public range for some hitting. I finally made it out today. I am hitting longer and straighter. Feeling pretty good.

Beer update: My saison is bubbling away slowly and nicely. I am a happy camper.

Sep 28, 2005

My beer is prematurely done fermenting ...

I brewed last Friday a Belgian beer called saison. It is a rustic beer with a wide flavor profile. Since it is fermented at high temperatures, there are many flavors that do not show up in clean tasting beer (boring some says) like German lagers and British ales (to a less degree).

My saison is of the heaviest kind. It is starting at 1.080 specific gravity, which means it should be about 9% abv. YEAH! I hope this turns out to be a big tasting beer. Within a few hours of brewing, the beer started to show signs of fermenting. Air bubbling through and smell of sweet malt in the air only lasted about two days. It should be going for at least two or three more days. I thought may be it was a vigorous and fast. I decided to transfer to another clean vessel for secondary fermenting/aging.

I found that the beer was stuck at 1.045 specific gravity. Sample tasted too sweet. Oh, no. I may have to pitch another batch of yeast. Lucky for me that I saw a sign of fermentation restarting. Very slowly but surely, air bubble started to come up the air lock. YES! I guess I will tough it out and just wait for the specific gravity to drop to the right level.

I think my left leg is longer.

I have been told that all humans have limbs of different size. As I have observed my anatomy while practicing yoga postures, my left leg seems to be longer. This discovery is eye opening, because I now understand what people have been saying about my walking is true. People have been saying that I have this great gangsta walk after road races or more commonly a limp. I guess hard races bring out the inequity in length of my legs. I feel a little like Frankenstein.

Movie recommendation: I am recommending a movie called "Born into Brothels." It is about kids who lives with prostitute mothers in Indian red-light district. It is good to see how kids are so appreciative and long for better future. It is eye opening for people who are sheltered like myself to bad things in the world. I like the medium the documentary uses to deliver the story, which is the photos taken by the kids. I understand this movie won Oscar for the best documentary. I really liked this movie.

All my teams lost today.

Oh, the woe of the first week of NFL. My beloved Minnesota Vikings blew their season opener to Tampa Bay. Dante had five turnovers. I am still optimistic that they will be much better for rest of the season. In addition, Arizona Cardinals lost to New York Giants. It hurts a little because I have decided to root for the home town team, the Cardinals. I hope the Cardinals lose thier losing ways this season. I was also rooting for Andre Agassi to win his third US Open today, but Roger Federer beat Andre handily. I am batting zero for three today. STRIKE OUT!

Movie recommendations: Crash is a must see for all human beings. This movie describes our prejudices and human conditions better than any movies I have seen. At least the ones I can remember. Acting in this movie is superb. Writing is fabulous. Characters are all flawed like regular people and their prejudices are very pronounced, but they all have redeemable qualities. Please watch this movie. We can talk about this movie for a long time.

Grandma is so generous.

I took my grandma to her rheumatoid arthritis doctor yesterday. I got to spend sometime with her afterward, because she needed to wait for her ride home. We had a chance to watch a little bit of New Orleans news footage together and chatted little about the misery people were facing. I felt the strongest charitable emotions ever in my life. I cannot hardly stand the misery those poor people were experiencing.

I asked Grandma if we should donate some money. I was not expecting the response I got back. She said, "is a hundred dollars enough?" WHAT? A hundred dollars!! Let me tell you about my grandmother. She is living on social security check. She is a penny pincher like the most WWII era citizens. I mean she refuses to throw away things. I was very touched by her generosity and humanity. I was expecting about twenty dollars. Well, I asked for it. I decided to match her effort and donate a hundred dollars myself.

I decided to talk to my parents about donating this morning. I drove over to their store and told them about the grandma's donation, which was so effortless. I think mother was impressed and proud of her mother. I got another hundred dollars. Today, I filled out a donation to Red Cross for two hundred dollars, which will be in the mail first thing Tuesday. I donated my hundred on-line. I am so very proud of Grandma!!!!!

Downward Dog? Yoga is not so bad.

I just redeemed my sister's gift from last Christmas. She thoughtfully (cough) got me an intro series to yoga. It consists of eight classes during four weeks. I was, of course, very apprehensive as I am not as limber as I would like. I was also leery of spiritual propaganda being pushed by yoga instructors as I don't know much about it. I guessed the best I can do is go in open minded and reject anything I don't like. Anyhoo.

I arrived a little early for the first class, as I hate being late. I handed over my waiver and paid a dollar for mat rental. There were more than tweleve students if I recall correctly. It was standing room only, or should I say sitting room only. The students were of different types. You know, tall, short, skinny, and not so skinny. I was surprised to see about equal number of men and women. I guess I was relieved to see guys.

There was a great "Gosh darn" moment. A great room walked in and laid out her mat. You know, the eye candy type that makes your class bearable or enjoyable. Sorry to say, she was in there for few minutes before realizing she was in a wrong class. BUMMER.

Weirdly, I actually enjoyed my first class. It was more strenuous than I thought it would be. I felt much tension from rarely stretched muscles, joints, and extremities. I think this will be good for my running and good for calming down. I think I can actually use some of these postures in real life. COOL!!!

My movie pick:

I am recommending two movies this time. I enjoyed watching Sin City and Layer Cake. Sin City is a visually stunning movie based on the graphic novel with same name, which I am assuming. It has all the big names like Bruce Willis, Brittany Murphy, and Elijah Wood. That means acting is above par. It is violent. It is unnecessarily violent like the comic violence can get. Only downfall for me is that I kind of outgrew the type of story this. It is not the most interesting story for me.

Layer Cake is a British gangster movie about drug business. It is a great story and acting is also good. I had no idea who is the bad guy. I mean they are all bad guys, but who is the one doing the bad things? I highly recommend this movie even though I hated the twisted ending. May be a little weak!

Little bro is not so little any more ...

I have been a Valley Big Brother to a young man, JR, for more than six years now. JR is a senior this year, which means this is the last year together as the Brothers. It is little sad. There were many good moments, but last year did not have so many. I am not sure what happen exactly, but I will make more efforts this year to do more things.

I arranged for JR and I to go bowling. I paid for our shoe rental and got us a lane. We chatted about this and that. I talked to him about his future and the senior year. I just wanted to plant some ideas in his head. While I cannot choose his path to glory, I would like for him to be more thoughtful about it. I think he will be great. If anything, I hope he knows there is another person rooting for him.

I won the first game easily. After all, I recorded a turkey. That is three strikes in a row for those who don't know. Second game was another story. I had to play catch up as JR bowled much better and I much worse. Luckily, I tied his score. I am still unbeaten, but that day is coming soon.

Movie Recommendation: Real Women Have Curves is my recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I guess I did not have a good read on this movie. This movie is about a smart young Mexican immigrant woman making it. I am sucker for a good immigrant story. There are many funny moments, but shows real insights into how things truly are in another sector of our society. I think any movie that offers better understanding of our world is a movie worth watching more than once. One BIG TOE up!

Is that Ricky Ricardo on the Miami International PA?

Did you know Blimpie International held its convention with its franchisees in Miami this past week? Well, now you know. My "mum" was nominated for the Franchisee of the year in the West Region. Since I am not working at this time, I could not tell her I did not want to accompany her to the convention. This will teach me to stay employed at all times.

Monday was a traveling day to Miami. I was ill right away with motion sickeness. I also forgot to bring any medication. Way to go. We first stopped at Denver. It was cool morning which was a great change of pace. We got on the rail to Concourse B, where our flight took us to Miami. It was a hellacious ride for both of us. I felt all the symptoms. You know, dry heaving and sweaty palms, etc. All I could do was to keep calm and breath easy. Somehow, I managed to keep everything down until we got off the plane. Let me just say, I gave back all the cinnamon roll to porcelain god. I felt better afterwards.

Landing in Miami was as expected. Hot and wet air hit my face as I exited the plane. As I was making my way over to the porcelain god, I heard this thick Cuban accent. I mean I heard a woman announcer with Ricky Ricardo like accent. I knew I was in Miami. Where else would you hear a public announcer with a Cuban accent? Too cool. People with all kinds of hispanic accents were all around.

My impression of the Blimpie convention is the meeting of overworked franchise owners with their families. First day was about registering and reception. The reception was a buffet of hotel food, which was mediocre at best. I was pretty tired so I did not go on exploring Miami Beach.

Second day, I sat through company rah rah's in the morning and walked through its trade show in the afternoon. Wow, I was not having fun. I guess this is what we call filial duties. My mother was hoping for a good bonding time with her son away from her crazy everyday stuff. We walked on the boardwalk and went out to dinner. It was nice, but walking long distance in sticky weather is not fun.

Third day was full of accolades for my mother. She won the West Region Franchisee of the Year, which qualified her in National Franchisee of the Year award. I was proud of her. Many came to congratulate her, and some knew her from reading the company newsletter that featured her. All this happened during the breakfast. During lunch, franchisee had a meeting which included a town hall meeting and voting. Wow, what fun! Reception and dinner was a little different. It was more awards and some dancing with dinner. Good news is my mother won!!!!! Very exciting. God, she needed this. She does not get enough appreciation from this ungrateful son. We watched as other under appreciated franchisees and under partied Blimpie Corporate employees danced the night away. I wanted to call it a nigh early, because we had to catch a plane out next day at dawn. Ouch.

I medicated myself so the trip back was much more pleasant. Of course, I sat in front of an inebriated woman. Flight attendant refused to serve her. Thank God, she was a polite drunk. I could not stop grinning as the situation seem so funny to me. She had slow speech, nonsensical speech, slow movement, and was little combative.

This trip was good for my mother and I think that is good for me at the end.

Allow me to explain.

I got tired of maintaining three separate blogs and asking people to read them. I decided to combine my blogging efforts about homebrewing, movie recommendation, and complaining all into one. I am going to write at least once a week, I hope. So here is my new blog.

Homebrewing: I am planning to brew a Belgian beer called "Saison" next. It should happen within a couple of weeks. I am pretty excited about this beer as it is quite different than other English or German beer. The last beer was bottled about a month ago, which was a California Common type. You know, like an Anchor Steam.

Movie Recommendation: I am highly recommending a Norwegian movie called "Slim Susie." It is a great movie that has quirky characters, interesting twists, musical interjections, and a great story. It has violence, sex, and vomitting, so be aware.

Complaining: Miami is not a good place for a visit during August. It was quite muggy. I mean people has glow about them, but it turns out they are all sweating.

Thanks for reading.
